The Leica ALS50 mark II Airborne Laser Scanner is a compact laser-based system designed for the acquisition of topographical and return signal intensity data from a
fixed-wing airborne platform. The data is computed using laser range and return signal intensity measurements recorded in-flight along with position and attitude data
derived from airborne GPS and inertial subsystems. The newest ALS50 allows accurate data collection independent of pulse rate, depending instead only on flying height
(MpiA – multi-pulse in air capable). The system has a flying height envelope ranging up to 6000m above the ground for a variety of wide area mapping
configurations, resolution and accuracy.
Employed typically for large area surveys or wide corridors, the ALS50 mark II sensor is an especially efficient tool for generating accurate DTMs day or night,
especially over large areas of featureless or densely covered terrain. Commonly used in conjunction with Fugro's ADS40/SH52 digital image sensor for a complete mapping
solution for large areas.
Fugro GeoServices’s sister companies Fugro Earth Data, Fugro Horizons and Fugro Spatial Solutions all operate the ALS 50-II sensor deployed for high-altitude LiDAR
acquisition. These capabilities compliment Fugro GeoServices's remote sensing capabilities with the FLI-MAP 400 system.
